Amazonas Expedition: The Sacred Autana & Lake Leopoldo
 
An immersive expedition to two of the most mystical places in the Amazon. A legendary river adventure featuring two breathtaking trekking routes deep into the exuberant Amazon rainforest.
 
The Majestic Cerro Autana (Wahari-Kwawei)
 
To the indigenous Piaroa people, this sacred tepui (flat-top mountain) symbolizes the "Tree of Life" or the "Tree of All Fruits."
 
Located in the western region of the ancient Guiana Shield within Amazonas State, this geological wonder rises between the Autana and Sipapo rivers. Decreed a Natural Monument in 1978, it is globally famous for its sheer, vertical walls and flat summit. It houses the oldest known cave in the world formed entirely of quartzite, stretching 400 meters long and 40 meters high.
 
The Mysterious Lake Leopoldo (Paraka-Wachoe)
 
Known as "the lake in the mountains," this hidden body of water is enclaved within a mountain circuit just 12 km from Cerro Autana. This mystical lake features warm, dark waters and unique pink-sand shores, measuring 242 meters in diameter and reaching a depth of 30 meters.
 
The Route & Itinerary
 
 
 
Overland Departure: We depart from Caracas in a private van, crossing the mighty Orinoco River via ferry (Chalana) to reach Puerto Ayacucho.
 
 
River Navigation: From Puerto Samariapo, we begin our river expedition, navigating the Orinoco, the mirror-like waters of the Sipapo, and the Autana River until we reach the indigenous community of Mavaco.
 
 
The Trek to Lake Leopoldo: We will cruise through Caño Manteco and the Merey Rapids. From there, we embark on an estimated 4-hour jungle trek to our camp at El Zorro Waterfall, where we will spend the night in tents. The following morning, we will complete a 1-hour hike (2 hours round trip) to discover the hidden Lake Leopoldo.
 
 
Base Camp at Ceguera: After the lake trek, we break camp and return to Merey Rapids to board our boats toward the Ceguera Community. We will camp here for 3 nights, enjoying its natural rapids and the stunning views of Cerro Autana and the Wichoj (The Sleeping Indian mountain formation).
 
 
The Autana Viewpoint Trek: On our second trekking excursion, we will hike 1 hour up and 1 hour down to visit Uripica (The Wahari Viewpoint), offering a privileged panoramic view of the Autana Tepui in all its massive glory. We then return to our base camp in Ceguera to enjoy our final night in the Amazon before heading back.
